Literature Text

If you were to cut out my brain,
Do you imagine you’d find distain?
A hunk of tissue to shroud the vilest of sin,
But you could unearth them; they’re directly under the skin.

If you thought to remove my eyes,
Surely you would penetrate my disguise.
Squishy little gooey globs,
Always combat against the sobs.

If my heart plunged from my chest,
You’d better believe I wouldn’t protest.
It aches and breaks or freezes solid,
No matter its state, my true feelings are always hid.

If my skin were ripped from me,
would you find my ashen scarred skin pretty?
I used to use a knife-edge to be strong,
Now I loathe those inscriptions that don’t belong.

If my lips and teeth were detached,
My lies would collapse, leaving me outmatched.
Without manipulation to fuel my ends,
Maybe I’d finally learn to make amends.

If you were to take my soul,
You’d feel as I; complete and utter control.
It’s tough and patched, but resilient all the same,
My roaring blaze that won’t be tamed.
